Combining Sentences Without “And” – Ice Cream Theme

ice_cream_sent_combining

This language skill is one that many students find challenging until it has been explicitly taught to them.  Use these ice cream themed sentences to give your students practice combining sentences without using the word “and” by adding an adjective from one sentence to the other sentence.

Take these two sentences as an example:

  1. The syrup is sticky.
  2. The syrup tastes like strawberries.

They can be combined by taking the adjective that describes syrup in the first sentence and using it in the second sentence.  The combined sentence would be:

The sticky syrup tastes like strawberries.

These worksheets contain ten pairs of sentences to combine.
