Combining Sentences Using “And” – Pizza Theme

Combining Sentences Using “And” - Pizza Theme

Teaching our students to combine short, simple sentences into sentences with compound subjects and predicates can improve their writing. It’s a simple skill that sometimes just needs to be taught to them.

Take these two sentences as an example:

  1. Tom ate the pizza.
  2. Tom ate the breadsticks.

They can be combined by getting rid of the redundant information and using the conjunction “and.”  The combined sentence would be:

Tom ate the pizza and breadsticks.

There are two worksheets that each have five sentence pairs to combine for a total of ten pairs of sentences. An answer sheet is also included.
