Picture Boards and Direction Following for F Sound

Picture Boards and Direction Following for F Sound

This activity combines articulation practice and basic language skills.  It keeps students thinking while giving them multiple opportunities to practice their target sound on each turn.  It can also be sent home as a home program activity.

Included are picture boards and directions for /f/ in the initial, medial, and final positions of words.  The printable versions are available in color and black and white.

Interactive Material: This material includes an interactive version that can be used with your student(s) in person or during a teletherapy session. The file can be uploaded to Google Slides or opened in PowerPoint and shared with the student. In order to drag and drop the pieces, make sure you are in edit mode (NOT in presentation mode). If you are using PowerPoint, you’ll need to enable editing.

What to do for the printable versions:

  1. Print out the picture board for the sound position you are targeting (initial, medial, or final).  You can print one for each student if you want them to each have their own board.
  2. Print out the directions page, which is for you to read from.
  3. Have the students name the pictures on the picture board.  You can do this together or with the students taking turns naming pictures.
  4. Read a direction to a student (e.g., “Find and name the numbers.”) and have him/her look at the picture board and name as many items as he/she can find that fit the description.  If the student is working at the sentence level, have him/her answer in a sentence such as “The four and five are numbers.”
  5. Give corrective feedback as necessary.

Other uses:

  • You can cut the picture boards apart to use as pictures for drill activities or as picture cards for memory, Go Fish, or other matching games.
  • You can use the boards and directions as a following directions language activity.
