Candy Sorting by Sound Position

Candy Sorting by Sound Position

This is a fun,  Halloween themed sorting activity that can be used to promote phonemic awareness. You can practice phonemic awareness to help with speech articulation or early reading skills.

In this game, students say the name of the picture on the candy and determine if the target sound is in the beginning, middle, or ending position of the word. Then they place that piece of candy on the Halloween bucket sorting mat for that position.

There are three Halloween bucket sorting mats and 96 candies with color pictures.  The cards include pictures for initial, medial, and final /s/, /l/, /k/, and /f/.

Interactive Material: This material includes an interactive version that can be used in teletherapy. The file can be uploaded to Google Slides or opened in PowerPoint and then shared with the student. In order to drag-and-drop the pieces, make sure you are in edit mode (NOT in presentation mode). If you are using PowerPoint, you’ll need to enable editing.
